General Information
The Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Plant involved the upgrade of secondary treatment facilities including the construction of three secondary clarifiers, RAS pumping stations, anoxic tanks, level control structure, MCC building, pipelines, methanol dosing facility, MLR pumping stations, Bioreactor modifications, access roads and associated earth retaining structures. More specifically the project involved the construction of a 135lin.m long, 4.5m high Concrib® cribwall to stabilise an existing cut 3:1 embankment batter. The system adopted was the CONCRIB precast segmental crib retaining wall system.
Retaining solutions was engaged the design, supply and install the cribwall system. The footings were located within mostly HW/MW or less weathered strong dacite bedrock. Subsequent jointing was inherent which required the use of a reinforced concrete footing. Certain area of the cut embankment required battering @ 1:1 profile with application of stripdrain, mesh and shotcrete. All foundation verification and embankment stabilisation measures were carried out by ACT Geotechnical Engineers Pty Ltd.

The retaining wall was completed in approximately 4 weeks with ongoing plant wet-hire for another 6 months for general earthworks and backfilling around structures using 5tonne, 20tonne and tracked loaders owned by Retaining Solutions. Rock hammers were utilised with zero swing machines due to tight access between structures.
